Invitation Design: Gian & Donna’s Dreamy La Union Wedding

Save the dates and wedding invites are the first hints of a wedding’s general design aesthetic. The mood, colors and overall theme of the wedding must be captured in the invitations to provide a clue on what the wedding will be like. In the case of Gian & Donna, they have a clear view of what they want, and I usually ask the couple for key words, preferences in design elements, then begin from there as I develop a draft for their invites. It was such a joy to work with Donna because she was super involved in providing input for the invitation design. Donna gave me her pegs (because pinterest is life!) as well as details from her coordinator as I was coming up […]

Commissioned Painting: Watercolor Lilies

One of my clients commissioned me for a painting of a bouquet of lilies to be given to her mom for Christmas. As I was doing the work, I decided to take some progress shots so I can share them with you. This project is pretty special, because lilies are one of my favorite flowers as well, and knowing that my painting would be flown all the way to Dubai to make someone happy makes me feel like I’m painting for a very  important purpose. I started with the underpainting using Holbein permanent yellow and olive green, leaving out the white space for the flowers. I layered with more shadows using Shin Han Pthalo blue and Holbein Sap Green to give the bottom part of […]

Love, Trust & Respect: Bespoke Postcards for Marja’s Bridal Shower

Bachelorette parties usually involve kinky things, phallic shaped cakes and possibly gyrating bodies, but some brides like it classy and simple with a nice dinner, lovely conversations and some coffee and wine to cap off the evening. Very tita, some might say, but I think I like the Tita way, specially when I get to be a part of the preparations! Apart from organizing the event for her best friend Marja, Carissa came up with the idea of giving out custom made postcards to her guests. I was totally onboard because in my head, I have this image of her close friends unearthing this small piece of artwork  years after her wedding and they would fondly reminisce “Hey remember that time we had such a tita party […]

Monogram Design: Rustic watercolor for Gino & Vetz

Two of my college friends are getting married soon, and I’d like to share this small project that I did for this lovely couple! I met these two in DLSU College of Computer Studies (yes, we are all geeks). Gino was my freshman year blockmate and Vetz is our batchmate. We shared several subjects when we moved to our majors and have been friends since she and Gino became a couple. They’ve been together for more than 10 years and when our barkada found out that they were engaged, of course, we were all so excited! Vetz asked me if I can create a monogram for their wedding in November. She was initially clear on two things: purple and calligraphy. I started experimenting with watercolor […]

Japan Postcard Project

When I first visited Japan, I wanted to send out postcards but found that some of them were quite expensive. I started creating handmade watercolor thank you cards and eventually my own postcards so that I could bring them to Japan and send out to friends the next time I visit. I was inspired by flowers that I saw during Golden Week, particularly in Shinjuku, Enoshima, Kamakura, Yokohama and Fujisawa during hanami season in spring, I created patterns and added some common greetings or phrases in Nihonggo. This started out as a personal project but ended up selling this set to friends and other customers. Each card is sold for 50 Php and a set of 4 is available for 180 Php. Available for shipping within […]
